The purpose of Environmental Care (EVC) is to ensure a safe physical environment for our patients, visitors, and staff. EVC is responsible for cleaning the hospital, performing floor care, managing waste and recycling removal, and supervising medical and sharps waste.

Clinical Engineering Services

Clinical Engineering Services (CES) primary responsibility is to repair, inspect, and maintain the safe and effective performance of the majority of the medical equipment at The Johns Hopkins Hospital.

Types of Equipment Serviced:

  • Medical electronic equipment: physiologic monitors, clinical networks, infusion pumps, defibrillators, pulse oximeters, electro-surgical units, infant incubators, warmers, etc.
  • Medical electro-pneumatic-hydraulic equipment: ventilators, anesthesia machines, surgical tables, ICU beds, suction pumps, etc.
  • Medical electro-mechanical equipment: heart-lung bypass units, hypo-hyperthermia machines, pumps, card embosser / imprinter machines, operating room tables, clinical beds, sterilizers, washers, etc.
  • Specialty equipment: lasers, ultrasonic imaging, surgical equipment, etc.

  • Personal computers: IBM-compatible hardware and software
  • Personal computer peripherals: monitors, scanners, etc.
  • Office equipment: copiers, fax machines, etc.
